Apple CarPlay Has Arrived in San Francisco

Built-In Apple CarPlay - Your Formal Introduction to Toyota Connectivity

What is Apple CarPlay? How do I use this system while seated inside my Toyota model? These questions are frequently addressed to our team here at San Francisco Toyota, so we're here to set the record straight. With Apple CarPlay compatibility standard on 2019 Toyota models including the Avalon, Corolla Hatchback, Camry, C-HR, Sienna and RAV4, gain an appreciation for how to maximize iPhone connectivity on the move with our in-depth preview below.

What is Apple CarPlay

Simply put, your Apple CarPlay connection replaces a traditional multimedia system inside your Toyota vehicle. Optimized for your iPhone and paired to this device specifically, you can look forward to accessing features from your smartphone through the touchscreen and voice-activated command functions as your drive progresses. Features that drivers frequently enjoy utilizing include phone messaging, Apple Music, Apple Maps, iMessage and podcasts, while this system supports the utilization of other downloaded apps and settings. 

Carplay is available on the following Toyota models at no additional cost and with no subscription fee.

How to Use It

Respective compatible Apple mobile devices - including iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1 or newer - allow for access to Apple CarPlay in select Toyota models. Simply plug your device into the accompanying USB port and complete the instructions below for activation and access.

Step One - Configure

Confirm your Apple device's eligibility for Apple CarPlay use, locate an Apple lightning cable for connectivity and turn on enable settings for both CarPlay itself and Siri voice-activated control. These respective settings should already come configured on your mobile device but confirm this status before moving on to the second step in this process.

Step Two - Activate

Visit menu, proceed to setup and then general, and then pick Apple CarPlay on your Toyota model's multimedia interface. Ensure that the Apple CarPlay setting in this system is on. (Fig A)First time useres will be assed "allow Carplaywith Toyota while phone is locked?" (Fig. B) Upon plugging your device into the USB port for first-time use, respective do not enable, enable once and always enable options will appear. (see Fig C.)We recommend selecting always enable to no longer see this report and have your device properly configured for future use, unless your prefer differently.

Step Three - Access

With Apple CarPlay now connected and ready for access, head to your main menu and select the CarPlay icon to get started. The built-in Toyota Entune 3.0 system, standard for traditional use of infotainment and connectivity, will temporarily disconnect while you access your Apple device's top messaging, navigation, music streaming and online application features.  To use Entune 3.0 press Toyota App Icon or the Home button. Carplay will still be running in the background. To end a session unplug your phone.(Figure D.)
