What is a hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle?

The fuel cell system this go ‘round is about 30 percent more powerful with its EPA-estimated 402-mile driving range in the XLE grade. Being a fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) means it is a plug-less electric vehicle that uses non-toxic fuel to power the car with compressed hydrogen gas instead of your typical liquid gasoline.

So, what does this translate to in terms of power? The lithium-ion battery and the whole power control unit can produce 182 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. That’s an increase over the previous (first) generation Mirai, which produced 151 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque.

Design

The new generation of the Toyota Mirai has a coupe inspiration but with a lot of practicality woven in. Now it can fit as many as five people inside rather than just the four of the previous generation, and the entire exterior has an elegant yet confident look, with aerodynamic angles and lines that help with its smooth ride and efficiency.
