2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive

Originally found on the RAV4 Hybrid, the RAV4 Prime uses an electronic on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system to power the spirited crossover SUV. This works by using a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when they are needed, which includes proactive work upon accelerating and starting up. This system also helps the RAV4 Prime in surfaces or situations where the traction isn’t ideal, helping the vehicle get a better grip on the surface.

When you take the RAV4 Prime off the paved roads and onto the rustic roads leading to your favorite weekend getaway home, this AWD system works to help you better climb those hilly areas. The RAV4 Prime also offers a special Trail mode for driving that will brake a wheel that is spinning out as well as sending torque to the wheel that is firmly grounded in order to help pull you out of getting stuck in the mud.

Other RAV4 Prime off-roading features

The 2021 RAV4 Prime also offers up available paddle shifters which can allow the driver to “downshift” in order to increase regenerative braking to help give you even more control when driving on hills. The RAV4 Prime also has a Predictive Efficient Drive feature which uses the available navigation system to in a sense read the road while learning your patterns as a driver so it can optimize the hybrid battery charging and discharging based on the conditions at the time. It can even remember certain features on familiar paths!

The 2021 RAV4 Prime is expected in August 2020, and if you are in the San Francisco area, please feel free to contact us to reserve yours today!
