How to connect Apple CarPlay to a new Toyota

These days, cars are more connected than ever. Technology has always been a focal point in the automotive industry, but now you can stay connected to the whole world from behind the wheel of your new car. That’s especially important on the busy streets of San Francisco, or anywhere in the great state of California. Toyota has always been at the leading edge, and that is why many new Toyota models from 2019 and beyond come standard with Apple CarPlay® functionality. If you have a compatible iPhone, you’re going to love what this suite of technologies can do. But before we get into what you can do with it, let’s go over how to connect Apple CarPlay to a new Toyota to get started.

Steps for setting up Apple CarPlay on the Toyota infotainment system

  • Plug your iPhone into the USB media port with a compatible media cable.
  • A prompt will display on the touchscreen. It is recommended to select “Always Enable” at this stage, because that will automatically activate Apple CarPlay any time a compatible phone is connected.
  • Press the Menu button on the side of the infotainment screen.
  • Tap the Apple CarPlay icon to start using Apple CarPlay.

What can you do with Apple CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay is a great way for iPhone users with compatible devices to be able to use some of the applications from the phone while behind the wheel, including safe hands-free calling and messaging.

You can also use such applications as Apple Music to jam out to your favorite tunes while on your commute. Plus, this feature is now compatible with more third-party navigation apps, including Google Maps and Waze, to give you more options for your navigational needs. You can even keep track of the day’s events by accessing your phone’s calendar, and so much more!
