2020 Toyota Tacoma off-road features and specs

Pickup trucks serve a wide range of functions for work and for play, and in addition to offering drivers convenient and handy ways of carrying cargo where they want to go, they also offer much in the way of off-road driving. Pickup trucks are often equipped with features and designs that allow them to tackle some tougher terrain. The Toyota Tacoma is one such pickup. It’s the midsize pickup truck in the Toyota lineup and is generally used for lighter duty tasks, but it can still off-road with the best of them. Let’s go over some of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma off-road features and specs.

TRD Off-Road

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is available in six trims, and the most off-road-ready trim is the TRD Off-Road. It’s right there in the name! The TRD Off-Road has a number of features standard to its trim that make going off the beaten path a lot easier.

The TRD Off-Road offers standard electronically controlled locking rear wheel differential works to evenly distribute engine power to the rear wheels, which can help give them more traction when needed. The TRD Off-Road also offers up Crawl Control, or CRAWL, which automatically modulates the throttle and the brakes during lower speeds when the trails you’re on start to get tough. That way, your focus can remain on controlling the Tacoma through those tough trails.

Another feature of the TRD Off-Road is Multi-terrain Select (MTS). This works to automatically adjust traction control and engine throttle. Plus, the TRD Off-Road’s standard Bilstein® shocks are designed to soak up the tough beatings that some trails can dish out.

Off-road features on other Tacoma trims

Even if you do not go with the TRD Off-Road trim, you are still able to enjoy taking things off less traveled roads. The available Multi-terrain Monitor (MTM) uses multiple cameras to show you what your surroundings are looking like so you can better navigate the trail. If you find yourself on steeper inclines, the standard Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) helps to minimize backward rolling and keep you steady on hilly terrain. The Tacoma overall is also built and designed in ways to handle a lot of different surfaces, so whichever Tacoma trim you choose, you’ll be in good hands.
