It seems a performance-spec GR avatar of the popular 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback could be heading your way anytime soon. After skipping the GR Yaris two-door hot hatch, Toyota might have something to cheer up enthusiasts who were hoping for a 2022 VW Golf GTI and 2022 Hyundai Veloster N rival from the Japanese auto giant. The 2022 Toyota GR Corolla could arguably be the most anticipated Toyota launch this year after the updated GR Supra and GR 86. What we know about the 2022 Toyota GR Corolla so far
Toyota USA has been teasing a camouflaged GR Corolla on its social media accounts over the past few months, hinting that it could be headed stateside. And from whatever we know so far, the 2022 Toyota GR Corolla will be a performance variant of the four-door 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. As per many reports, it will be powered by the same 300-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that powers the Toyota GR Yaris in the European and Asian markets. The 2022 GR Corolla will come equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission with standard all-wheel drive.
A recent teaser posted by Toyota USA on its Instagram shows the rear of a heavily camouflaged GR Corolla. We could make out a shark fin antenna, dark-finished window surrounds, and a beefed-up rear bumper than the standard Corolla Hatchback. Apart from several cosmetic highlights and sporty accents, the GR Corolla will likely sport a front, rear, and center Torsen limited-slip differential that helps while cornering at high speeds.
When is it coming?
Toyota has yet to make any official announcement on the GR Corolla launch date in the US. However, it could arrive sometime later this year. A recently leaked dealer document suggests that the hot hatch could arrive in October 2022, but considering the information comes from a dealer report, it could be possible that Toyota may change the launch date.
